What does the Young People's Engagement and Justice Service do?
Our main aim is to prevent offending and re-offending.
Young people can get into trouble and commit anti-social behaviour and offences for different reasons. We work with young people and families to try and make changes to avoid repetition and escalation. We also aim to work with all victims of youth crime, ASB and young victims of adult crime when referred.
We gather information to assess and create intervention plans which include;
- education and awareness session
- challenging thinking and attitudes through cognitive behavioural interventions
- working with the full family
- engagement in activities and hobbies
- trying to improve physical and mental health
- education and training help
- restorative justice
We do not work alone. We work with partner agencies and the support of;
- Police
- Police Crime Commissioner
- Health, Education
- Children’s Social Care
- National Probation Service
- Local and Regional Charities
- Sports and Leisure Clubs
- Creative Hubs
- Community Initiatives
We want young people to feel part of their local community and to have chance to achieve their potential. Child First principles ensure that we see those referred to us as Child first and offender second. If you would like to see more about ‘Child First’ please see the Youth Justice Board website [external link]
