It has been an exciting past eight months for Victoria Bowman. She had her artwork included in the book ‘Outside In: Exploring the Margins of Art’ with author Marc Steene writing of her work “Through her considered working, Victoria arrives at complex patterns that have a delicacy and beauty uniquely their own. They can seem like a fantastic patchwork sometimes with repeated motifs or glyphs. There is an innate pattern making in her work, a gradual arrival at a harmonious whole”.

Victoria then had her work shown as part of London Art Fair in January this year, followed by a launch event for the display of one of her drawings at Howden offices in London in April 2024.

Her work will also be included in ‘Art at The Grange’ a collaboration between Outside In and The Grange Music Festival in a spectacular country house setting in Northington, Hampshire.

Now Victoria has been nominated and invited to apply for the Paul Hamlyn Artists Award – one of the most prestigious art prizes in the UK. A panel of artists and curators each nominate up to 5 artists and these artists applications are then considered by the following panel of judges;

  • Jane Hamlyn, Chair, Paul Hamlyn Foundation
  • Martin Clark, Director, Camden Art Centre
  • Tessa Giblin, Director, Talbot Rice Gallery
  • Ingrid Pollard, artist and 2019 Award recipient
  • Catherine Wood, Director of Programme, Tate Modern

Previous winners of Paul Hamlyn Artists Award include Phyllida Barlow, Ryan Gander, Larry Achiampong, Sonia Boyce, Rose Wylie and Alison Wilding – all highly respected and successful artists.

It is an amazing achievement for Victoria to be considered in the same category and compete alongside such impressive company. We all wish her the very best of luck and further success in the future!
