Four artists from CAP were successful in being selected from over 600 applications for the Outside In 2025 National Open exhibition on the theme of ‘Shelter’. The exhibition opens at the New Art Gallery Walsall in June 2025 and then tours to Christie’s in London in January 2026

The selected artists are Cheryl Cordier, Anne Smith, Jennifer Smith and Emma Watson.

Stephen Snoddy, Director of The New Art Gallery Walsall states

“We are delighted to be hosting this important exhibition as part of our ongoing partnership with Outside In. This is an excellent opportunity to continue to develop access and exhibit work by artists who face barriers engaging with the arts sector and will also enable us to create further opportunities to diversify and shine the spotlight on work that could all too easily be overlooked.”

The Shelter exhibition also has prizes – selected by an independent judge, including a solo exhibition which CAP artist Alan Payler won in the 2019 Open.

The latest Community Art Project trip on 30th January took us to MIMA in Middlesbrough to see ‘Towards New Worlds’ – a survey of work by artists who are disabled, D/deaf and/or neurodiverse as well as a rather wonderful display of artist Winifred Nicholson’s Cumbrian Rag Rugs.

The Community Art Project will also have an exhibition at Darlington Crown Street Gallery later this year. This will include a selection of artwork by all current attenders using a variety of media.
