Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

What is a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA)?

Local planning authorities are required to prepare Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessments (SHLAA).

The SHLAA provides:

  • an assessment of the potential of a Local Authority area to accommodate housing development over the Local Plan period;
  • an assessment of the suitability, availability and achievability of potential new housing sites; and
  • it informs housing and planning policy.

The Council published its first SHLAA on 31 March 2009.
