School Uniform Exchange
Darlington Cares supports businesses with their corporate social responsibility mainly through employee supported volunteering. We have been running since 2012 and have accomplished over 50,000 hours’ worth of volunteering within Darlington.
When the global pandemic hit in 2020 it hit Darlington residents hard financially. In May 2020 there was a huge increase in ‘School Uniform Grants’ searches on the Darlington Borough Council website. This was something which the authority doesn’t issue. Working with DBC, we came up with the idea of a uniform bank and started to collect donations of new and good quality school uniform. With Covid restrictions at the time, all items were professionally dry cleaned which is something that we have continued to do. We have successfully collected and distributed for free over 15,000 items of school uniform. This has saved over 2 tonnes of clothes going to landfill. Not only does the School Uniform Exchange help those struggling financially but it is good for the environment.
You can find the School Uniform Exchange in Queen Street Shopping Centre. It is open for everyone to get uniform for free. We also accept all donations of uniform and have drop off donations at the shop within Queen Street and at the Dolphin Centre.
