Can we fix it? Yes, we can! (mostly!)
The Fixit Cafe is run by people who like fixing things and want to share their knowledge, skills, and enthusiasm. Since we began, we’ve had all sorts through the door, a clockwork toy, inflatable dinosaur, laptop hinge, fairy lights, vacuum cleaner, electric flosser, wheelchair blanket and lots more.
People throw away vast amounts of stuff, items that could be repaired and given a new lease of life. Our team can help things be used for longer and not just thrown away. It saves money and reduces the amount of raw materials used to make new products. It cuts CO2 emissions, for example, because manufacturing new products and recycling old ones causes CO2 to be released.
Our fabulous team of handy volunteers meet on the last Saturday of the month from 11am until 1pm at the community Hub next to the Friends Meeting House on Skinnergate. We will be in the foyer of the Dolphin Centre for Darlington's Eco Fair on 8th June.
You can pop along with your broken item and one of the team will have a go at fixing it for you. Please don’t take in items that can already be easily fixed nearby such as white goods and alterations to clothes. It’s on a pay as you feel basis and there’s tea, coffee, and cake on offer too.
Look out for us on Facebook or call into the next session to find out more.
